Denver Concerts

This is 15 miles outside of Denver and is the site of big-name concerts. In 1927, George Cranmer, Manager of Denver Parks, convinced the City of Denver to purchase the area of Red Rocks from John Brisben Walker for the price of ,133. Cranmer was able to continue the dream of the theatre by first convincing the Mayor of Denver, Ben Stapleton, to proceed with the project and then enlisting the help of the Federally sponsored Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and Work Projects Administration (WPA) to provide labor and materials for the project. Denver architect Burnham Hoyt did the design of the amphitheatre, with an emphasis on preserving the natural beauty of the area. The design was done in 1936 and the amphitheatre was dedicated on June 15, 1941, although the total time to complete the project covered 12 years.
